As against common perception :)

Last week I had my convocation for successfully finishing one year course in Strategic Management from IIM Kozhikode. Amidst the excitement of travelling to Kozhikode a.k.a Calicut and revisiting the memories of one week orientation in the beautiful campus of Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode; meeting friends and finally receiving the certificate that all of us had worked hard for; one of the lingering tension was that our return trip was booked  through an Air India flight.

Not to spark any controversies; we were really worried. With the strikes and cancellations , we didnt know what the fate of our flight going to be. Infact my last time experience of Indian AIrlines flight, though not bad did definitely leave room for a better impression. I was pressed for time as I had gone during the weekend for this and had to be back by sunday night because had to report to work the next day and two days away from my little ones was only that I could afford.

Having a wonderful time in Calicut it was now time for us to head home.  At the airport we had a quick check in and chatted for some time with our friends and also met some of our professors for a quick tête-à-tête. Infact we even ended up missing our boarding call till the time someone came asking for passengers of Air India. While boarding we realized,  me and my friend were the last two passengers left to board.  But I guess patience was a definite virtue with the crew there.

The Calicut Delhi flight was going to be a long one and my friend never stopped complaining about the discomfort of sitting for a long journey as the plane was making two stopovers at Coimbatore and Bombay respectively. However since the beginning of the journey we were amazed to see the service. The crew was patient and thorough. Though I dont travel much but I have had my share of inflight experience. The initial instruction during takeoff that we had memorized by the end of trip because of the halts had been so detailed and explicit that we did not mind hearing it again and again.I remember what caught both our curiosity was a specific instruction pertaining to child safety that we have never heard previously in any of our flight experience.  As both of us have children of same age; we liked when Air India spent time on explaining in detail about child safety.

Except for the discomfort of sitting through; even my friend stopped complaining of the journey because he was also convinced that we were getting good service. Infact for a while we also debated as to who should go to the crew incharge and pay her a compliment and I wanted it to be him as I always thought he was good with compliments. Ultimately I think none of us actually did it. But I wanted to make it a point to tell people I know that I had a good time and Maharaja did not fail me..

Kudos to the team of AI flight from Calicut to Delhi on June 3, 2012.
